چکیده

In order to increase the reuse of wastes and residues, as required by Waste Framework Directive, potential use waste, residue natural minerals low-cost permeable reactive barrier (PRB) materials was investigated. The performance a kitchen waste compost, sepiolite steel slag compared with that volcanic slag, pumice activated carbon in removing specific contaminants from landfill leachate. experiments represented removed 27% ammonium (NH4+), 75% chemical oxygen demand (COD) 100% phosphate (PO43–), zinc (Zn2+) nickel (Ni2+) Volcanic exhibited removal efficiencies 50% COD PO43– 20% NH4+, Zn2+, 65% PO43–. were also checked for their releasing unwanted constituents different levels solute (e.g., PO43–, SO42–, NH4+) release. Among reactives, found be material reflecting minor release Cd2+ Ni2+), but delivering 40, 50, 65, 95, 97, 98, 98 Ni2+, COD, Cl–, F–, NH4+ respectively. results show studied have reactives PRB systems treating high strength contaminant plumes.

Groundwater Pollution by Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Leachate: A Case Study of Okhla Landfill Delhi

The large number of municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills and the many hazardous materials which they contain pose a serious threat to both surrounding environment and human populations. Once waste is deposited at the landfill, pollution can arise from the percolation of leachate to the porous ground surface. Contamination of groundwater by such leachate renders it and the associated aquifer un...

Subsurface characterization of groundwater contaminated by landfill leachate using microbial community profile data and a nonparametric decisionmaking process

[1] Microbial biodiversity in groundwater and soil presents a unique opportunity for improving characterization and monitoring at sites with multiple contaminants, yet few computational methods use or incorporate these data because of their high dimensionality and variability. We present a systematic, nonparametric decision-making methodology to help characterize a water quality gradient in lea...

Evaluation of the impact of landfill leachate on groundwater quality in Kolkata, India

The present study is aimed at characterizing the landfill leachate as well as its impact on the surrounding groundwater in Kolkata, India. Landfill leachate has been seasonally characterized from 2012-2014, indicating the landfill site in methanogenic phase with high contamination of organics, nutrients, salts, and heavy metals. Sixty groundwater samples have been analyzed for twenty two physic...
